Westfield Academy and Central School had students selected for area all-state and New York All-State honor ensembles this fall. Five students, Langston Bias, Lyra Stephenson, Grace Wolfe, Zachary Wolfe and Seth Zielinski, were selected for Area All-State chorus which took place at SUNY-Fredonia.  Our students gathered with the finest singers in the four westernmost counties of New York and prepared a public concert.

Grace Wolfe was also selected for the New York All-State Mixed Chorus, which took place at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Grace had the chance to work with a guest conductor and perform with a choir of auditioned students from schools from across the state.

Junior flautist Shelby Begier performed a solo at the highest possible level last spring, earning qualification for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Conference All-State Symphonic Band. Thousands of students from across New York State practiced for months in hopes of securing a spot in what is widely regarded as “the best band in the entire state.”

Shelby earned her place over students from much larger schools with more extensive programs, a true testament to her tenacity, work ethic, and dedication, as well as her private instruction with former WACS faculty member Helen Ihasz. Shelby spent four days in Rochester rehearsing with her ensemble under the direction of Dr. Courtney Snyder from the University of Michigan, culminating in an extraordinary concert in the stunning Kodak Theater at the Eastman School of Music.

Our entire school is incredibly proud of Shelby. Bravo on this incredible accomplishment!
