You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child. ~Dr. Seuss

With a focus on African drumming, they learned about various drums and ways to make music. Our students will tell you that they loved playing the African Djembe drum.
Thank you, Mr. C and Mr. D! 🎶

Westfield – February 2024 WACS Appoints School Safety Advisor – Welcome Mr. Scriven
Mr. Nathan Scriven attended and graduated from Mayville Central School. He continued his education by attending Jamestown Community College (JCC) and studied Police Science. After graduating from JCC, Mr. Scriven enrolled in the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy. After completion of the academy, he began a career in law as a full-time police officer with the former Chautauqua Institution Police Department while also working part-time with the Westfield Police Department. He eventually accepted a fulltime police officer position with the Westfield Police Department. In May of 2003, he transferred to the Fredonia Police Department. During his 20-year career with the Fredonia Police Department, Mr. Scriven was a member of the Chautauqua County Forensic Investigation Team, Evidence Custodian, achieved the rank of Sergeant, and for seven years was the School Resource Officer for the Fredonia School District.
Mr. Scriven recently retired from the Fredonia Police Department. As a retiree, he noted his favorite pastime was coaching his son and his friends in youth league sports. Additionally, Mr. Scriven coached four years of basketball and baseball at WACS from 2017-2020.
Mr. Scriven said he is looking forward to working with all students and staff as our School Safety Advisor. His goal is to create a safe environment for all to learn and work. He prides himself on being very approachable. He encourages anyone to come talk to him with concerns regarding safety issues on or off campus or even just day-to -day stressors. He is here to help. He has been a public servant for approximately twenty-eight years. During that time, he has gained a tremendous amount of experience, so there is a good chance he may be able to assist. Mr. Scriven wants WACS to know he is here to help and cares about our school community!

The 2024 CCMTA All County Winter Festival included two WACS student performers. Jarek Montalban (12th grade Trombone) and David Hoebener (11th grade Alto Saxophone) both auditioned for and were chosen to participate in the All-County Jazz Ensemble. Pictured here with their conductor Dr. Mark Filsinger from Buffalo State, both musicians performed several tunes, including one composed by Dr. Filsinger. Jarek laid down a pretty sassy solo on a Latin tune and David rocked the saxophone section with a few familiar faces from around the county.
Girls on the Run will start up again this spring for girls in grades 3-5. If you have questions or are interested in a scholarship, please reach out to Miss Shelters dshelters@westfieldcsd.org .
